The level design and moment-to-moment play experience of the original game is re-created with a lavish faithfulness, with only a few tweaks that are largely unnoticeable and generally enhance the play. The original Demon’s Souls is a big, challenging, beguiling game, the first in From Software’s Souls series. The strange places in Demon’s Souls are still strange, the scary places still scary. It still is one of the most enthralling and frustrating experiences you can have in a video game.

But those nitpicks notwithstanding, Bluepoint did an excellent job of updating Demon’s Souls to modern standards without changing the core of its gameplay. Perfect and hone your skills in combat – know when to push forward and when to bide your time, as with each missed swing and careless mistake, you risk losing the very souls you’ve worked so hard to collect. The rewards for slaying the strongest foes are immense though, and death does not mean the end – it’s just another state of being.

Encountered in a ruin roughly halfway through 4-1, the Adjudicator Shield, while not a weapon in a traditional sense, is an excellent complementary piece for builds that aren’t excessively reliant on parrying or dexterity. Classified as a large shield, it’s not practical in all situations, and it doesn’t even negate one hundred percent of incoming damage. A classic starting weapon for Demon’s Souls is the Knight Sword, a simple weapon that can be wielded in one or both hands by your character. This tool is the ultimate example of flexibility, as you can upgrade it or infuse it however you want without the risk of it losing its best qualities. The low Stamina cost on each swing means that your strikes will be fast and reliable without putting your character at risk. If you manage to find the Ring of Avarice, you’ll increase the number of souls that drop from enemies, making soul farming more bountiful.

Fundamentally, Demon’s Souls for PS5 is what it has always been. Barring some small tweaks, the design of the game is identical to From Software’s original. The core mechanics are unchanged, the enemies are placed in the same positions and behave in the same ways, the devious tricks and traps are still there, ready to catch the unfamiliar off-guard. Demon’s Souls will also have a vast number of visual improvements. The game’s kingdom of Boletaria is far more detailed than it was on PlayStation 3, and the game will feature two graphical settings.

All of this is taken to new heights of immersion through the DualSense controller. The haptic feedback adaptive triggers pair with the 3D audio in superb fashion. It’s one thing to watch as your character strikes down the undead and impales a skeleton, it’s another to completely hear and feel the difference. Every sword strike and spell blast feel instantly recognizable, while even the creaking of a chain-operated elevator or the pattering of rain add to the overall immersion. It really has to be felt to be understood but the DualSense finalizes this game as having the best gameplay of any “Souls” title. Demon’s Souls Remake feels positively slow compared to other games from developer FromSoftware — and it’s still a very challenging game.

Originally, the anticipated remake was expected to release on PS5 only. AF88 should consider a Dexterity build when using this weapon. Adding the Sharp upgrade changes the scaling of this weapon from a C to an S. This weapon also has bleed damage that is useful for taking down those fleshy enemies.

Increased Loading Times

As the threat neared, the console’s haptic feedback sent the vibrations further up the controller. I realized what was happening just quickly enough to turn around and watch a cluster of boulders bowl me over. Fractured Mode is a new game mode that allows players to take on the world of Demon’s Souls in a different way. Players can activate this mode in the Nexus by visiting the statue near where they spawn.

A huge point of contention with Demon’s Souls is that the healing grass system in the game makes healing overpowered. The issue focused on carrying a ton of the item with no drawbacks. In order to balance this a bit Bluepoint Games gave the item a weight and because of that, the player is limited to how much of it they can carry.

Demon’s Souls Digital Deluxe Edition

The Chest is located in World 1 – 2, behind where you located Ostrava. The Legs are in 1 – 4, behind the area where the Blue Dragon is. These bosses may be the scariest that FromSoftware has ever designed. Dark Souls 3 is similar to its predecessors in that it’s challenging action RPG with a vague story. This is all to say that even though FromSoftware’s contribution to Demon’s Souls is well appreciated, it, alongside Bloodborne, where always Sony projects.

However, when talking about the Souls series, most people tend to talk about the Dark Souls trilogy without even mentioning the predecessor that provided the building blocks of the series — Demon’s Souls. Thankfully, this is not the case anymore — Bluepoint Games has done an excellent job of remaking the original Demon’s Souls on the PS3 to allow a new generation of gamers to enjoy this classic. It’s not uncommon for FromSoftware fans to experiment with magic, bows, or even daggers, but sometimes, nothing feels quite as comfortable as a solid sword. In Demon’s Souls, there is a large rapier that players can get a hold of in the early game that happens to be a solid option for players who prefer the combat attack animations of the thrusting sword class of weapons.

Fans of the original can revisit the kingdom of Boletaria and fight demons in the best way possible. New Soulslike fans should check out the game that started it all, as it is worth revisiting in 2025 and beyond. Bluepoint Games perfectly reimagined the original version of Demon’s Souls and gave it the remake it deserves.

Boss #6 – Tower Knight

This will be good early on, but later down the line, players can turn this weapon into the Meat Cleaver. Faith-build players should consider grabbing the Ring of Devout Prayer to gain an extra Faith Spell Slot. Demon’s Souls best starting class might not be the game’s most complex – but some are better suited for new players than others. To get the Falchion early, players will need to travel to the Shrine of Storms.

The fans of the original version had nothing but positive things to say about the remake. Demon’s Souls was originally released for the PlayStation 3 and remade from the ground up for the PlayStation 5. Fans of the original can expect a faithful reimagining of the fallen kingdom of Boletaria and go back to slay enemies on current-generation hardware. Featuring a design that looks inspired by Pyramid Head’s sword from the Silent Hill franchise, the Meat Cleaver packs a hefty punch in its oversized blade.

The change to the heads-up display or HUD and the user-interface or UI is something that the Demon’s Souls community has been up in arms about since the remake’s release in late 2020. Some fans believe that the lack of item names and modernization of many of the design elements take away from the immersion of the game. Others feel it’s an upgrade that modernizes the game in the right way and makes it look much more accessible to gamers who didn’t experience the original game back in 2009 on the PS3.
